Polymarket Token and Airdrop: What's Actually Confirmed

Polymarket has said it will launch a token and an airdrop, but it has not said when, what the token will be called, how many will exist or who will qualify. Everything beyond that single commitment is speculation, and as of late October 2026 no launch date, ticker, supply, snapshot or eligibility rules have been published.

The commitment came in October 2025, when chief marketing officer Matthew Modabber told the Degenz Live podcast that "there will be a token, there will be an airdrop," adding that the company's priority was relaunching in the United States first. Founder Shayne Coplan had hinted at a POLY token on X earlier that month. A year later, Polymarket has relaunched in the US but has not followed up with token details.

This guide separates what is confirmed from what is guessed, explains how airdrops like this usually work, and covers the scams that thrive while the details are unknown.

What Polymarket Has Actually Said

The confirmed facts fit in one paragraph. Polymarket's CMO said a token and an airdrop are coming, that the company wanted a token with lasting use rather than a rushed launch, and that the US relaunch came first. Coplan's earlier post hinted at the name POLY. Polymarket has not published a whitepaper, tokenomics, a smart contract address or an official claim page.

Since then, the company has been busy with the US business that Modabber said came first. It bought QCEX, a CFTC-licensed exchange and clearinghouse, in July 2025, won CFTC approval for its US platform that November and opened its US app in December 2025. In October 2025 Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, agreed to invest up to $2 billion in the company. None of those steps came with token news.

How a Polymarket Airdrop Could Work

Crypto airdrops usually reward past activity, measured at a snapshot date that is announced only after it has passed. Traders expect a Polymarket airdrop to look at some mix of:

  • Trading volume, the measure most often mentioned and also the easiest to fake.
  • Breadth, such as the number of distinct markets traded or months active.
  • Profit and loss, which would reward forecasting skill rather than churn.
  • Liquidity provision, since Polymarket already pays maker rebates and liquidity rewards to traders who post resting orders.
  • Account age and verification, to filter out bot farms.

All of this is speculation. Polymarket has not said which activity, if any, counts.

Wash trading is the reason eligibility rules matter. A Columbia University study published in November 2025 estimated that roughly a quarter of Polymarket's historical volume came from wash trading, a pattern that airdrop farming would help explain. Projects often screen out accounts that trade with themselves or in tight loops, so volume alone may be worth less than many farmers assume.

The US Question

Polymarket now runs two platforms: its global, crypto-based exchange, which blocks new US trades, and Polymarket US, a CFTC-regulated exchange for American customers. A token airdropped to US users would raise securities law questions that a token for international users would not, and many crypto projects have excluded US residents from airdrops for that reason. Polymarket has not said how it will handle this. Our guide to where Polymarket is legal explains which platform serves which countries.

What the Token Might Be Used For

Polymarket has not described the token's purpose. Common uses in comparable projects include fee discounts, rewards for liquidity providers, governance votes and staking. One more possibility is specific to prediction markets: disputed outcomes on Polymarket's global platform are currently settled through UMA's optimistic oracle, whose token holders vote on disputes. A native token could in principle take over part of that role, but that is a guess, not a plan the company has announced. Our explainer on how prediction markets resolve covers the current system.

How to Avoid Fake Airdrop Scams

An unannounced airdrop with a famous brand is ideal bait. Fake claim pages, lookalike X accounts and sponsored search results promising early allocations appear around every anticipated airdrop, and Polymarket's is one of the most anticipated. The rules are simple:

  • Only trust official channels: polymarket.com and Polymarket's verified social accounts.
  • Never sign a transaction or message on a site that promises free tokens. Wallet drainers use signature requests to empty wallets.
  • No real airdrop asks you to pay a fee first or to send crypto to "unlock" an allocation.
  • Check the domain letter by letter. Lookalike domains are the most common trap.
  • Treat any announced date you have not seen from Polymarket itself as false.

Should You Trade to Qualify?

Trading only to farm an airdrop that may never reward volume is a poor bet. Fees and spreads are a certain cost, and the payout is unknown in size, timing and criteria. If you trade on Polymarket, trade markets you understand and treat any future airdrop as a bonus. Our Polymarket review and guide to whether Polymarket is legit and safe cover the platform itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Polymarket airdrop confirmed?

Polymarket's chief marketing officer said in October 2025 that there will be a token and an airdrop. The company has not announced a date, eligibility rules, a snapshot or the size of the airdrop.

What is the Polymarket token called?

Nothing is official. "POLY" is the name most commonly used, based on a hint from founder Shayne Coplan, but Polymarket has not announced a name or ticker.

When will the Polymarket token launch?

There is no announced date. Polymarket said its US relaunch came first. That relaunch happened in December 2025, but no token timeline has followed. Any specific date you see online is speculation.

How do I qualify for the Polymarket airdrop?

No criteria have been published. Traders expect activity such as volume, number of markets traded and liquidity provision to matter, but this is guesswork. Volume generated by trading with yourself is the activity most likely to be screened out.

Can US users get the Polymarket airdrop?

Unknown. US customers now trade on Polymarket US, a CFTC-regulated exchange, and token distributions to US residents raise securities law issues. Many crypto projects exclude US users from airdrops.

Is the Polymarket airdrop claim page I found real?

Almost certainly not. Polymarket has not opened any claim process. Do not connect your wallet or sign anything on a site offering POLY tokens.
